This collect of 4 short films made in the late 1950s and early 1960s depict a time when Whitbread horses did everything from appearing in agricultural shows where they won many prizes, to daily delivering beer from drays to even pulling the Queens coach on ceremonial occasions.  The quality of these recordings is not of a modern standard but it is professional and consistent with the technical devices available at the time.  More importantly these films give us a feel of what it was like when the horse ruled as the power for transport and when there were more horses in London than in the country.

They comprise:

1.  The House of Whitbread:  Royal and Soverign Commentator John Snagg – 17 minutes approx.

2.  Whitbread Horses 1958 Commentator Jack Howells Produced by Ace Films – 6 minutes approx.

3.  Horse Power:  Commentator Terence Carroll Produced by Holdsworth in association with Whitbreads – 22 minutes approx.

4.  Gilbert.  Whitbread Stables.  A Whitbread film – 17 minutes approx.

Time:  Total 1 hour & 2 minutes
